Estudios Avanzados is a journal of the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Santiago de Chile. Its main goal is to publish original papers in Social Sciences and Humanities related to the study of the American continent, its sub-regions (North, Central and South America ) and its international relations. It is open to contributions on subjects related to social and political studies, culture and international relations.
Types of contributions received:
- Original papers.
- Book reviews of works published during the last two years.
- Documents of interest.
Manuscript submissions
1. The sender will accept a peer review of its paper.
2. The papers must include a title and subtitles according to the sections, without capital letters, bold, underlined or italic scripts.
3. A short abstract in English and Spanish should precede the main text with no more than 100 words.
4. Five key words in sequence of relevance, in Spanish, portuguese and English.
5. Name and two last names of the author. On foot page the institutional affiliation, the name of the research project from which the papers comes from and the author's e-mail.
6. The papers and reviews must be original not currently under review elsewhere.
7. Papers and book reviews in English and Spanish are received. They will be published in the original language. Estudios Avanzados doesn't translate.
8. The main article should normally be within 5.000 and 10.000 (including pictures or graphs, notes and references), letter sheet (with margin of 2.5 cms in all its sides), one space, script number 12, Times New Roman, compatible format with Word (Open Office; Neo Office; Office, etc.).
9. Review articles should normally be within 1500 word.
10. At the end of the article, the author or authors must add a brief resume of not more than 10 lines. It must contain the professional profile: full name, nationality, academic degree, institutional affiliation, field of research, main publications and personal e-mail.
11. Quotation must be in quotation marks. If it takes more than five lines the quotation must be separated, using italic scripts.
12. The bibliography reference of the article must be insert in text or in foot note. It must to include between parenthesis: Author's surname, year of publication and page number. For example: (Stavenhagen, 2001: 21) .
13. A full bibliography it will attach at the end of article. For example: Author/s, year, title, editorial, city. Like the following example:
Rodolfo Stavenhagen (2001). La cuestión étnica . The School of Mexico , Mexico .
- The title must be italic script.
- In case of more than two authors, it is mentioned first one, and it is added “and others”
- In case of articles in journal, magazines or books, the title of the article must be in quotation marks and the one of the magazine or book in italic script, like:
Peter Winn (2006). ““Por la razón o por la fuerza. Estados Unidos y Chile en la América Latina de los años sesenta y setenta”, en Francisco Zapata (Comp). Frágiles suturas . El Colegio de México/FCE, Santiago.
Francisca Márquez (2002). “La vida realizada-la vida postergada. La construcción biográfica en Chile ”, en Perfiles Latinoamericanos . 21 (1): 73-98.
- The notes on footnote must be on script number 9.
14. The publisher will confirm article reception and will inform acceptance in a term of 60 days.
15. Evaluation Procedure. The evaluation of articles will be made external referees. They can approve, approve with modifications or reject it.
16. The authors who are published in the journal will receive one or two copies of the respective journal number, according to availability.
17. The publisher retains the right to deny the publication of a submission if it does not follow the publishing norms of the journal.
18. The original paper should be emailed as an attach in Word or RTF format to revistaidea@usach.cl
